We have reviewed construction plans of the referenced facility. Our review is to insure compliance with the minimum code requirements related to fire and life safety as set forth in the California Fire Code, State Fire Marshal’s Regulations and local fire code ordinance. These plans have been denied. We require the additional information listed below in order to complete our review.
Please add the appropriate NOTES, DETAILS and INFORMATION on your plans and RESUBMIT with an annotated copy of this letter. All changes to drawings will require "clouding of the change".

CORRECT PROPERTY INFORMATION – THE APN SHOWN ON THE APPLICATION AND THE FRONT PAGE OF YOUR PLANS IS NOT A GOOD APN.
NOTE on the plans “these plans are in compliance with California Building and Fire Codes (2016 edition) and Aptos/LaSelva Fire Protection District Amendments”. (CFC §1.1.3)
NOTE on the plans “the OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION, BUILDING CONSTRUCTION TYPE / FIRE RATING and SPRINKLERED or NON-SPRINKLERE. (e.g. R-3, Type V-B, Sprinklered)” (CFC §105.4.2)
Each APN (lot) shall have separate plan submittals for each sprinkler systems. (CFC §501.3 as amended, CFC §901.2, CFC §903.3.1.1, CFC §903.3.1.2, and CFC §903.3.1.3 as amended)
NOTE on the plans "All buildings shall be protected by an approved automatic fire sprinkler system complying with the currently adopted edition of NFPA 13 for a light hazard, and adopted standards of the Aptos/LaSelva Fire Protection District". (if building is to be equipped with fire sprinklers) (CFC §901.2.1)
NOTE on the plans “the designer/installer shall submit three (3) sets of plans and calculations for the overhead Fire Sprinkler System for approval prior to construction.” (CFC §901.2)
NOTE on the plans “all underground piping systems shall comply with the County Standard FPO-006 and shall require plan submittal and permit approval prior to installation. The standard is available at the Aptos/LaSelva Fire Protection District upon request”. (if building is to be equipped with fire sprinklers) (CFC 901.2)
SHOW on plan locations of portable fire extinguishers complying with CFC §906 etal. Provide minimum 2A-10:BC fire extinguishers with a maximum of 75 feet travel distance from any location within the building. (CFC §906.3)
NOTE on the plans, “A manual and automatic fire alarm system that initiates the occupant notification signal as prescribed in CFC §907.2.3 shall be installed.” (If not protected by a fire sprinkler system)
NOTE on the plans, “Three (3) sets of fire alarm plans, battery calculations, specifications and OSFM Listings shall be submitted and approved prior to commencing work.” (If not protected by a fire sprinkler system) (CFC §907.2)
NOTE on the plans “Automatic shutoff in the main supply-air duct for smoke control shall be provided for air-moving systems supplying air exceeding 2,000 CFM. The actuation of smoke detectors within the air ducts shall initiate a visible and audible supervisory signal at a constantly attended location.” (CMC §609 and CFC §907.2.13.1.2)
NOTE on the plans “building numbers shall be provided. Numbers shall be a minimum of six (6) inches in height on a contrasting background and visible from the street. Where numbers are not visible from the street, additional numbers shall be installed on a directional sign at the property driveway and the street.” (CFC §505.1)
NOTE on the plans occupancy load of each area. Show where occupancy control signs will be posted. (CFC §1004.1)

NOTE on the plans, “A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS NOTICE to the fire department is required prior to inspection.” (CFC §105.2.2)
NOTE on the plans “The job copies of the building and fire systems plans and permits must be on-site during inspections.” (CFC §105.3.5

Our review is not to be construed as encompassing the structural integrity of the facility or abrogating more restrictive requirements by other agencies having responsibility. Final acceptance is subject to field inspection and necessary tests.

Dear Property Owner:
Based upon a review of the plans submitted, District requirements appear to have been met, and PLANS ARE APPROVED FOR PERMIT.
A service fee of $1200.00 is due and payable to the Aptos/La Selva Fire Department PRIOR TO APPROVAL of permit application. Reminder: the enclosed original color copy Permit/Service Fees form must be certified by the Aptos/La Selva Fire Department at time of payment. Certified form must be submitted to the County for completion of permit process.
The job copies of the building and fire system plans and permits must be on-site during inspection.

Upon completion of the Fire Department requirements please call the Fire Prevention Division to set up an appointment for an inspection. You will be asked for your permit number and assessors parcel number. A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS NOTICE to the fire department is required prior to inspection.

Plan check is based upon plans submitted to this office. Any changes or alterations shall be re-submitted for review prior to construction.
