ACCESS ROAD SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum Street Widths.
a. 1 and 2 Dwelling Units: 12 feet curb-to-curb, no parking;
turn-around if over 150 feet.
b. 3 to 5 Units: 20 feet curb-to-curb; sufficient off-street parking
must be provided and fire lanes must be posted.
c. 6+ Units: 24 feet curb-to-curb; sufficient off-street parking must
be provided and fire lanes must be posted. 30 feet curb-to-curb; parking on one
side only.
d. Subdivision: 30 feet, parking on
one side. 36 feet curb-to-curb; minimum subdivision allows for parking both
sides and two-way traffic.

Widths shall be increased when in the opinion of the Chief, widths are not
adequate to provide fire apparatus access.
·
Where it is environmental inadvisable to meet these criteria, due to excessive
grading, tree removal or other environmental impacts, a twelve foot wide,
all-weather surface access road with 12 foot wide (24 foot total width
including road) by 35 foot turnouts located every 500 feet may be provided with
the approval of the Fire Chief.

Title 19 of the California Code of Regulations requires that access roads from
every state governed building to a public street shall be an all-weather hard
surface (suitable for use by fire apparatus) road way not less than 20 foot in
width. Such roadways shall be maintained only as access to a public street.
·
Obstruction of the road widths as required above, including the parking of
vehicles shall be prohibited as required by the Uniform Fire Code.
NOTE on plans the FIRE FLOW requirement for the subject
property is 1000 gallons per minute..
NOTE on the plans the
AVAILABLE FIRE FLOW from the closest existing hydrants on Mission Dr. and
Thurber Lane. The AVAILABLE FIRE FLOW
information can be obtained from the water company
SHOW on the plans a public fire hydrant, type and location,
meeting the minimum required fire flow for the building, within 600 feet of any
portion of the building when the building is equipped with an automatic fire
sprinkler system.
Submit a check in
the amount of $115.00 for this particular plan check, made payable to Aptos/La
Selva Fire Protection District. A late
fee may be added to your plan check fees if payment is not received
within 30 days of the date of this
Discretionary Letter.

Based upon a
review of the plans submitted, District requirements appear to have been met, and
PLANS ARE
APPROVED FOR PERMIT.
CONDITION OF
APPROVAL: For compliance with Central
Fire District Emergency Access Requirements, FPB #59, the driveway shall have
no horizontal projections within the 24 foot wide width, or within the vertical
clearance of 15 feet high.
The job copies of the building and fire system plans and permits must be
on-site during inspection.
Upon completion
of the above listed requirements please call the Community Risk Reduction
Division to set up an appointment for an inspection. You will be asked for an
address and Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN).
A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS NOTICE
to the Fire District is required prior to inspection.

Fire District
fees must be paid and a receipt for District fees must be presented to the
County Planning Department before Building Permit issuance. A $75.00 late fee may be added to your plan check fees if payment is not received
within 30 days of the date of this
letter.
