State Fire Marshal approved siding assemblies may also be detailed. If using a State Fire Marshal approved assembly, detail and reference to the listing number. [CRC R337.7 / CBC 707A.3] **Open Roof Eaves & Soffits: Please specify the exposed underside of open roof eaves to consist of one of the following: a) Noncombustible material. b) Ignition-resistant material. c) Fire-retardant-treated wood per CBC 2303.2. d) Materials approved for 1-hour fire-resistance-rated construction on the exterior side per ASTM E119 or UL 263. e) One layer of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum sheathing applied behind an exterior covering on the underside exterior of the roof deck. f) The exterior portion of a 1-hour fire-resistance-rated exterior assembly, as tested in accordance with ASTM E119 or UL 263, applied to the underside of the roof deck designed for exterior fire exposure, including assemblies using the gypsum panel and sheathing products listed in the Gypsum Association Fire Resistance Design Manual. Exterior Porch Ceilings: The exposed roof deck on the underside of unenclosed roof eaves shall consist of one of the following per CRC R337.7.7: Items a-f same as comment above for enclosed eaves and soffits. g) Porch ceiling assemblies with a horizontal underside that meets performance criteria in CRC R337.7.11 as tested in accordance with ASTM E2957. h) Porch ceiling assemblies with a horizontal underside that meets performance criteria as tested in State Fire Marshal Standard 12-7A-3. Compliance with these requirements was not found. If design remains with a completely open porch ceiling and eaves, the underside material (sheathing or decking) must meet WUI requirements. In addition, the roof framing, if using item “d” which allows for 1-hour construction using heavy timber, must comply with CBC Table 2304.11. Roof and ceiling members must be a minimum of 4x6. Otherwise, provide an alternative method of compliance per above.
