Action Summary Minutes

 

Welcome

          Chair Heidi Simonson called the meeting to order at 9:05 and introduced the Retreat Facilitator, Kay Archer Bowden.

 

Oral Communications

          There were no Oral Communications from the public.

 

Introductions

          Retreat participants introduced themselves and stated their expectations for the day.

 

Review Agenda & Expected Outcomes

          Participants reviewed the agenda and expected outcomes for the Retreat.

 

Confirm Retreat Decision Process

          Participants confirmed the Retreat decision process:  Commissioners and invited staff and associates participate as equals in all discussions.  Commissioners make final decisions by majority vote.

Adopt Meeting Agreements

          Participants adopted a list of meeting agreements to guide participant behavior during the Retreat.

 

Discussion of Reports on Survey and Goal Implementation

          Participants discussed the reports first in small groups and then as a large group.

 

 

Develop Strategic Goals, Milestones, and Action Plans

          The Commission adopted the following three strategic goals for the next two years and accompanying milestones and action plans

 

 

GOAL:

                   To improve and reorganize the Commission structure.

Completion Date:

                   April 1, 2006

Milestones:

·        Complete all work by April 2006.

 

 

GOAL:

                   To Evaluate and Improve the Annual Report’s Efficacy, Emphasizing the Effectiveness of the Batterers’ Intervention Programs.

Proposed Completion Date:

                   April 2007

Milestones:

·        Read reports and highlight concerns of DVIP by end of April 2006.

·        Gather feedback from other stakeholders, outline major concerns to the Commission, and make suggestions by July 2006.

·        Finalize improvements and begin implementing recommendations by October 2006.

·        Complete implementation and initial assessment by January 2007.

 

 

GOAL:

                   To Provide Community Education about Domestic Violence.

Purpose and Scope:

                   To organize a domestic violence awareness campaign that includes medical providers, workplaces, schools, the community and media, public relations, and a video for teens.

Proposed Completion Date:

                   2008

Milestones:

·        Gather materials for medical education and develop a plan for October Kickoff by April 2006.

·        Evaluate medical education materials, implement County workplace contact, and finalize Kickoff plans by July 2006.

·        Kickoff Event for planning for April Domestic Violence Awareness Month by October 2006.

·        Continue work January 2007 and beyond.

 

Summarize Retreat Decisions & Evaluate Retreat

          The Facilitator reviewed the Retreat’s expected outcomes and summarized the decisions made at the Retreat.  Participants evaluated the Retreat by brainstorming a list of what worked and what could be improved about the meeting.
