DEVELOPMENT/ANNUAL REPORT COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
January 16, 2003
Present: Alan
Hiromura and Linda Starn
Guests: Bob Lee and
Adair Paterno
- Meeting
called to order at 10:31 by chairperson Alan.
- No
additions or deletions to the agenda.
- No
oral communications from the community.
- Introductions
done. Adir represents the advocates
from the Walnut Ave Women’s Center.
She or Jennifer Rose will be members of the R&D Annual Report
Committee,
- Discussion
about questions #16 and #17 as to whether or not they will give meaningful
information for the report.
Highlights of the discussion:
- Conviction
rates more accurate
- Each
case may have multiple counts and some may be dismissed but the case will
still be considered a “win”. It
depends on who does the filing.
- Some
cases get filed with only 1 charge while others may have multiple. It is very dependent on the individual
DA who does the filing.
- Counting
the dismissals may be misleading.
- The
charges and how filed is influenced by the DA’s office, not the courts.
- Suggest
that the DA’s office give a broad summary of the dismissals for the annual
report. Charges that are frequently
dismissed for other reasons such as child endangerment can then be
monitored.
- For
the next meeting Bob will talk to Jean Jordan and decide what charges to
monitor and report for the annual report.
We will discuss at the next meeting.
- Alan
will give revised questionnaire minus questions 16 and 17 to the IS
department.
- Next
meeting February 20th at 10:30
in the CAO office.
- Developing
the work plan for the Research and Development/Annual Report Committee for
2003 held over until next meting.
- Meeting
adjourned at 11:41.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Starn
