Meeting Minutes

March 14, 2003

Present: Linda Starn, Alan Hiromura, Kim Austin, Abbie Robideaux, and Judge Thomas Kelly.

 

 

  1. Meeting called to order at 15:09 by Alan Hiromura
  2. Introductions of committee members done.
  3. No additions or deletions to the agenda.
  4. No oral communications from the community.
  5. Minutes from 2/21/03 approved (Hiromura 1st, Austin 2nd) with the following changes:
    1. V.  Report on Questionnaire, item #8 should read: Advocacy programs instead of batters programs.
  6. Report back on questionnaire responses to date.
    1. January is complete, February is 50% in.  Received Women’s Crisis Support on 3/13
    2. Audit reports to be used for accuracy of collection only
    3. Input of numbers going smoothly
  7. Civil courts questions were modified.  They are doing a hand tally for March as well as using the automated system for one question. 
    1. Alan will follow up with Carol Young as to whether the Courts data will be extracted from the DA or the courts information system.
  8. Sheriff department data presented by Abbie and What Works.
    1. Discrepancy with what the sheriff collects and What Works and the DV questionnaire in regards to child witness to DV.
    2. It has been confirmed what RMS collects and will try to match DV questionnaire.  What Works will request from Sheriff Dept. to report on expanded definition of DV
    3. There is a 1-year grant to give a stipend to the Sheriff’s office for data collection.
    4. Kim to talk to Sheriff Tracy about donating the stipend to the DV commission.
  9. Work plan for 2003
    1. Discussion about how to organize the report.  How many copies?  Who to distribute to:  Board of Supervisors, Member agencies, City Council members, and DV Commission members.  Potential to send to other counties including San Benito, Santa Clara and Monterey.  Will potentially need around 2000 copies.
    2. Put on county website the link to DV commission.
    3. Look at other annual plans for next meeting and how individual areas are displayed.  Visual graphics, charts, etc.
    4. Abbie to bring samples from Applied research of other report cards.
    5. Linda to bring CAP report that Dominican publishes.
    6. Each member will focus on a specific area:

                                                              i.      Alan- DA

                                                            ii.      Kim- law

                                                          iii.      Linda- Batters, Probation, Medical

                                                          iv.      Jennifer and Adair- Advocacy (Alan to ask them)

                                                            v.      Judge Kelly- Civil and criminal questions.

    1. Kim asked about DV stats compared to overall stats and what to use.
