Meeting Minutes

May 9, 2003

 

Present: Alan Hiromura, Kim Austin, Linda Starn, Jennifer Rose, Abbie Robideaux and Adair Paterno

 

  1. Meeting called to order at 1212.
  2. Introduction of committee members done.
  3. Addition to the agenda is the What Works stipend
  4. No oral communication from the community
  5. Minutes approved from 4/11/03 meeting (Starn 1st, Austin 2nd).  Kim will follow up with Sheriff Tracy on status of stipend money.
  6. Report back on questionnaires to date
    1. It is working well with less follow up needed by Alan.  Batterers tool is okay now.  DA stats will be collected in March retro to Jan.
  7. Template for the Annual report discussed.
    1. Linda to send out template as discussed so it can be presented at the 5/14 DV Commission meeting.
    2. Agencies divided up as to who will work with individual agencies to get the necessary supporting information:

                                                               i.      Alan- DA, Probation (Michelle Finch) and misc.

                                                             ii.      Kim- Law agencies

                                                            iii.      Linda- Medical and CPS (Francine Nickel)

                                                           iv.      Nancy Goodban and Abbie- (Child witness)

                                                             v.      Jennifer and Adair- Advocacy

    1. Template as discussed:

                                                               i.      Cover letter from Chair of DV Commission.

                                                             ii.      All sections will answer the questions:  What is it? How are we doing (in the form of data- rate/1000) and then Why it is important.

                                                            iii.      Initial services moved to the 1st section.  This is data from victim advocates.  Information here should have a collaborative paragraph, explain why patients are reluctant to report as to why stats may differ from law (they are not mandated reporters)

                                                           iv.      Laws and reporting agencies (medical)

                                                             v.      Child witness – data from What Works and CPS

                                                           vi.      Prosecution- data from DA and victim services

                                                        vii.      Convictions- (courts- civil and criminal) Judge Kelly should comment about family services (this was in my notes, not sure what it meant)

                                                      viii.      Post conviction batterers groups and Probation

                                                          ix.      Summary – should include the difference in numbers and what they mean

                                                            x.      Last page with acknowledgment to all agencies that provided data and reference information as to how to contact them.

  1. The final report will be posted on the DV web site
  2. Discussed census breakdown data.  This will be needed to report results.  In the census information race and ethnicity are separate questions so the numbers may have discrepancies if we separate the data by race, ethnicity for the city and county.
    1. Abbie shared the demographics information from the CAP report.  She will bring 2003 census data next time for ages 18 and over.
  3. Additional action items:
    1. Alan to bring sample data to the next meeting so the group can start thinking of how to display.
    2. Kim to follow up on What Works stipend with Sheriff Tracy.
    3. Abbie to email to the group template examples from other children report cards that have been used.
