to Order
Chair McWhorter called the meeting to order at 9:10 AM. Alan Hiromura and David Rabow were in
attendance.
- Additions
or Deletions to the Agenda
None.
- Oral
Communications from the Community
None.
- Approval
of the August 29, 2002
minutes.
Adding that the DA will be asked to track ethnicity of both victim and
perpetrator, the minutes were approved. Rabow/Hiromura/unanimous.
- Continue
review of each question in the Overview Report with the Screening
Questions.
The Committee worked on the topic, Hospitals, to make sure we needed their
information before asking them to participate. We do want their info:
# of DV reports turned in. Same demographics though children is still a
questionable demographic because we are not sure of accuracy of
reporting…not sure how question is asked, such as, child lives with
victim, or victim or perpetrator have children, or child was present at
incident…etc. Hiromura will talk with CPS to inquire further. We want
hospital info because we might find that more DV is reported to medical
personnel than reported to law enforcement. See if medical reporting is
increasing. Compare with law enforcement stats. All DV Medical reports are
supposed to go to the County Health Department within 2 working days from
the report.
- Letter
to Agencies
Recommendation—Compile the list of agencies and contacts to send letter
to.
The Committee decided to ask DV Commission members
to hand deliver the letters and to be the liaison to those agencies, enlisting
their support of the project and locating the contact person for each agency to
agencies they are connected with. Letters will be delivered to the agencies
listed on the overview document, adding Victim Services, Battered Women’s Task
Force, and Family Matters. Rabow will finalize the letter and send to
McWhorter who will create a cover letter and address the letters to the
appropriate designee at each agency, having them ready for the September 11 DV
Commission meeting. Disbursement will be as follows:
Kim Austin to all law enforcement.
David Rabow to Kate Canlis of the DA’s office. Christine Maguire (chair of the commission) to Robert Yonts,
representing the courts, and the Sgt. Robert MacAulay, Chair of the Death
Review Team. Paula Gammell to Judith Cox of Probation
and all the batterer’s programs (including MOAB?).
Linda Starn to Betsy McCarty, Chief of Public Health (this should cover all
hospital reports). Laurie McWhorter to advocacy agencies.
Francine Nickell or Alan Hiromura to CPS.
