DEFINITION

Under general supervision, operate photocopy equipment in preparing copies from original documents and microfilm; operate microfilm camera, developer, duplicator, printer and related equipment; and perform other duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class operate photocopy equipment as a primary assignment. Positions in this class have as an on-going, secondary assignment, the operation of microfilm camera, developer, duplicator and printer equipment. Positions in this class receive little direct supervision because the work is of a repetitive nature.

TYPICAL TASKS

Operate and maintain photocopy equipment to produce copies of original documents, permanent records, and microfilm; operate image scanner machine and review acceptability of images; adjust exposure to ensure optimum quality; load and unload film and paper rolls; drain and replace chemicals; make minor adjustments; occasionally make minor repairs; prepare documents for microfilming; operate film reader to review dated microfilm for poor image quality and photographic errors, and notes documents to be re-photographed; scan and index film; edit film to correct mistakes; operate microfilm camera and related equipment to film records, legal documents and develop and process films and prints; maintain records of quantities of copies produced; trims, punch, file maps and documents in books; mail back documents to customers; may provide indexing of official records and vital statistics; maintain inventory control; prepare and mail involuntary lien notices; perform a variety of clerical duties; may provide vacation or other temporary relief.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge of:

Working knowledge of:

• Microfilm and/or photocopy equipment.
• Camera operation and photocopy techniques.
• Lighting and timing techniques.
• Film processing and duplicating methods, copy and print production tech niques as applied to microfilm.

Ability to:

• Operate photocopy equipment with accuracy and speed.
• Learn and apply the techniques and methods of operating microfilm camera, developer, printer and related equipment.
• Maintain and make minor adjustments to photocopy and microfilm equipment.- Identify photographic errors and images of poor quality in microfilm copy.
• Edit film and make corrections.
• Understand and follow written and oral directions. Maintain accurate records.
• Perform general clerical work.
• Type at a moderate rate of speed.
• Safely lift and move objects weighing approximately 40 pounds.
• Stand for long periods of time.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience which would provide the re quired knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain these would be:

• one year of experience processing and developing film and/or scanning and editing of digitized images.
