DEFINITION

Under direction, to manage information technology operations and projects for a functional area, including operational and strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and staffing; and to do other work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

Incumbents are typically responsible for managing a single IT function in a County department. This class differs from the IT Manager II class in that the latter is typically responsible for multiple IT functions in a County department or for a countywide functional area. Errors affect the assigned department or business area.

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

BA/BS from an accredited college or university in computer science, business or public administration or a related field and one year of IT management or IT supervisory experience.

OR

Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, business or public administration or a related field and two years IT management or IT supervisory experience.

OR

Three years of IT management or IT supervisory experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Background Investigation: Some positions may require fingerprinting and/or background investigation. 

License: Possession and maintenance of a California Class C Driver License. 

Other Special Requirements: Availability to work irregular hours, which may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
