DEFINITION

 Under general direction, provides administrative services including planning , directing, organizing, reviewing and evaluating the work of the California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program (MTP). This class is responsible for the day to day management of one or more Medical Therapy Units.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This single-position class plans, develops, evaluates and directs comprehensive rehab programs for CCS clients, and supervises and trains other therapy staff. This class is responsible for analyzing and monitoring therapy programs developed by physicians and staff therapists. This class is also responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and directing changes in the operations of the Medical Therapy Program

This class is distinguished from the next higher class of Senior Health Services Manager, in that the latter directs multiple programs within Public Health.  It is distinguished from the next lower classes of CCS Occupational or Physical Therapist, in that the latter delivers direct therapy services including evaluation, planning and treatment to physically disabled clients.  

TYPICAL TASKS

Selects, trains, and evaluates  professional and support staff; assigns and reviews  the work of physical and occupational therapists for physically disabled children; instructs therapists in therapy techniques and provides for their continuing education; consults and works with physicians and therapists in evaluating children's disability and planning treatment programs; works with school personnel and other staff to coordinate the therapy and teaching program; arranges for participation of therapists in clinics; reviews reports and records of the therapists; maintains communication with other county and State CCS programs regarding legal, policy and practice expectations. Plans, implements and evaluates quality and effectiveness of all program activities; negotiates and implements interagency agreements, and is a resource to external programs regarding the operations of the MTP;  inventories and requests supplies; keeps informed of current trends and professional activities in related therapy.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain these would be:

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in physical or occupational therapy OR graduation from an approved school of physical or occupational therapy

 

AND

 

Two years of experience providing services to the physically disabled, including children.
