DEFINITION

Under direction, be responsible for one or both units within the juvenile hall; train, direct and supervise subordinate group supervisors providing for the care, welfare, custody and rehabilitation of juvenile detainees; oversee the activities of detainees; develop and supervise unit programming; and to perform other work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Senior Group Supervisor is responsible for serving as lead worker to Group Supervisors, program planning and day-to-day operations of a unit within Juvenile Hall. This class is distinguished from the higher class of Institutional Supervisor which is responsible for the security of the Juvenile Hall operations during an assigned shift and assumes some duties of the Assistant Superintendent when that person is not available. It is distinguished from the lower class of Group Supervisor II which is not responsible for leadwork, program planning or day-to-day operations of a unit.
