DEFINITION

Under direction, to serve as administrative and support staff to the County of Santa Cruz Women's Commission and Commission on Disabilities; to serve as a liaison between these volunteer bodies, County departments, the County Administrative Officer and the Board of Supervisors; and to do other work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This class serves as administrative and support staff to two commissions. Incumbents work under the direction of the Personnel Department and are expected to work independently. These assignments require incumbents to work flexible hours, which include night and weekend meetings.

TYPICAL TASKS

Provides technical assistance for commissions' operations; prepares and distributes agendas and minutes, and develops technical reports for meetings; assists commissions in formulating goals and objectives; develops and maintains close working relationships with a wide variety of public and private leaders and officials and with local, County, State and Federal agencies; provides necessary public information to the community on programs and services offered by various agencies and governmental bodies; responds to individual requests for information on activities and programs related to  either commission; locates, assembles and analyzes information related to  the commissions' activities and interests; may represent the commissions in meetings with groups and organizations for purposes of collecting information and describing the commissions' programs;  supervises volunteer workers for  commission projects; screens and  responds to correspondence and inquiries.

Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these would be:

Two years of responsible analytical, administrative or leadership experience in community organizations or public agencies, which required interactions with persons from a variety of backgrounds and from both the public and private sectors.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License or must be able to provide suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority.
