Section 600, Tuberculosis (TB) Testing Policy
A.
Description of Employees
Where Testing is Required
Based on current guidelines from the Center for Disease Control,
employees should receive pre employment and annual testing for tuberculosis
(TB) exposure if their job duties bring hem into regular exposure if their job
duties bring them into regular exposure with individuals in the criminal
justice/jail population, nursing homes, HIV patients of methadone and needle
exchange centers.
B.
Identification of Employees
by Position Number
Each department head should review existing and new positions and
identify those individuals whose jobs meet the criteria identified above. They should provide these position numbers
to the Personnel Director and the Health Officer. They will be added to the list to have pre-employment and annual
testing and, where appropriate, treatment for TB exposure.
C.
Testing upon Employee
Request
Any employee wishing to have a TB test at any time can come to the
Health Department Clinic at 1080 Emeline Avenue, Santa Cruz and request a skin
test that will be read two days later.
If a higher level of testing is warranted, this will also be
provided. Employees should identify
themselves as County employees at the front desk for this service.

Exposure
Any questions about TB exposure or testing should be directed to
the County Health Officer.
