PURPOSE:

To effectively interview candidates to fill vacancies, including using appropriate interview techniques and procedures to select the person best suited to perform the duties of the position; to conduct interviews within the guidelines prescribed by law and by County policies and practices.

POLICY:

  1. Upon request from a department, the Personnel Department will certify names of candidates for consideration for regular and extra help positions. 

  2. Certified candidates will be evaluated by the department through a selection process which will include the department's conducting selection interviews.

  3. The department selection interview process will be conducted in conformance with federal, state and local laws, and policies and procedures as defined in this Personnel Administrative Manual (see cross-referenced sections above), and included in the "Guide to Selection Interviews" issued by the Personnel Department (attached).

PROCEDURE:

  1. Upon receipt of a certification list issued by the Personnel Department, the department arranges for candidates to be interviewed. (Departments under equal employment opportunity administrative review conform with specific requirements as specified is PAM V.4.B and V.4.D.)

  2. The Personnel Department attaches a "Guide to Department Selection Interviews" to each certified list issued to departments.

  3. The department interviews candidates and documents the interview results as identified in the Guide to Department Selection Interviews attached.
