Felt Street Park

Location: South side of Felt Street between 17th Avenue and Paget Avenue

Project Manager: County Parks Department

Background and History: The Master Plan, designed by the Parks Department, evolved from three neighborhood meetings. It includes a fenced tot-lot, as well as a play area with a structure for children 5 to 12, a climbing wall feature, a small skate element for beginning/young skaters, a community garden, open lawn area, and picnic and barbeque area. There will be two bocce ball courts, a first for County Parks, shaded seating areas, restrooms and limited off-street parking. Drought tolerant plants will be incorporated along with native and exotic plants in the surrounding garden. This project will be developed by the County Parks Department with the Redevelopment Agency providing financing.

The Master Plan was revised according to comments received from the public and the Parks Commission at a public hearing in November of 2002. The revised Master Plan was then brought back to the Parks Commission on January 13, 2003, and subsequently approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Project Status: A contract to implement the park improvements was awarded by the Board of Supervisors on September 14, 2010. Construction is expected to be completed by the summer of 2011. Contact the County Parks Department for further details and progress with the construction.
