Soquel Creek Linear Park and Parking Improvements
(aka Heart of Soquel)

Location: Behind Soquel Village Post Office formerly Heart of Soquel Mobile Home Park, along the West side of Soquel Creek, south of Soquel Drive and East of Porter St.

Project Manager: David Reid

Background and History: In 1993 the Redevelopment Agency acquired the Heart of Soquel Mobile Home Park and property (1.2 Acres), located in Soquel Village within the Soquel Creek floodway. The Soquel Village Plan (1990) calls for the relocation of mobile home residents and the properties eventual conversion to publicly accessible open space with a path along Soquel Creek (Soquel Creek Linear Park) and improved public parking and circulation. After the purchase of the Heart of Soquel Mobile Home Park in 1993 the Redevelopment Agency relocated all the mobile home residents to homes outside the floodway. In 2007 the Agency purchased a nearby property along Porter Street (0.46 Acres), next to the old Soquel Grange (currently occupied by Santa Cruz Dance Company). The Soquel Village Plan illustrates this parcel as a key pedestrian access point to the Soquel Creek Linear Park. These two properties (see map) represent the core of the future Soquel Creek Linear Park and parking improvements project.

Currently the Heart of Soquel property with the exception of a few rental units housed within two existing buildings sits primarily vacant. The Porter Street property is also vacant and is not improved.

To move forward with the project conceptualization the Redevelopment Agency is conducting a series of community workshops to discuss how these properties can best embody the community’s vision for Soquel Village, implement the Soquel Village Plan and enhance economic vitality.
